NewEra Software is an industry leader in the repair, recovery, data erasure and integrity of z/OS systems. It has enlisted a worldwide team of distributors to market and support NewEra's two product environments - Image Control Environment (ICE) and Stand Alone Environment (SAE).
ICE builds, evaluates and maintains baselines over time, reporting changes and areas of concern. Baselines include z/OS, JES2, JES3, VTAM, CICS, TCP/IP (including Profile, .DATA, Resolver, FTP, SMTP, Telnet and OMPRoute), IODF (including OSCP, IOCP AND SWCP), and RACF.
ICE INSPECTORS create Baselines during a "Virtual IPL" of any z/OS system. The Image FOCUS application houses the Inspectors.
ICE EXPLORERS provide additional information that helps installations better understand their configuration. Image SENTRY houses the Explorers.
Image Control Environment (ICE) components include:
Image FOCUS Core Inspector
- Operating System Inspector
- Dynamic Element Inspector
- System Component Inspector
Subsystem Inspectors
- NET Inspectors (VTAM, TCP/IP)
Supplemental Inspectors
- Members (Inspects Datasets)
- Modules (Inspects Load Modules)
- CSD (Inspects CSD Datasets)

The Control Editor
The Control Editor extends the security of the installed ESM by providing users with a TSO/ISPF environment to control and manage access and changes to critical datasets.
The Control Editor allows for the tracking of changes such as edits, adds, deletes and renames to critical datasets. In ICE 8.0, the use of these datasets are also tracked by capturing the SUBMIT command when using a member of these critical datasets, creating not only a notice of use but also a copy of the JCL as it was submitted.
In addition, The Control Editor will allow the user to test the integrity of a JCL member during an edit session by allowing the user to simply enter a single command, SCAN, and receive the analysis of the JCL, in the edit session, as if it had been executed with a TYPRUN=SCAN JCL statement. This will help users save both time and CPU resources to perform these simple yet important validation tests.
Fast DASD Erase for z/OS
Fast DASD Erase for z/OS is an operating system version of the proven Fast DASD Erase application found in Stand Alone Environment (SAE). It can be used while z/OS is up and allows the user to erase data that is no longer needed and potentially could be a security risk.
IPLCheck
IPLCheck is a standalone system software product designed to help users of z/OS manage and protect the integrity and security of their operating system environmnet and critical business applications.
Once started, IPLCheck works with and under the control of the IBM Health Checker for z/OS. On demand or at controlled intervals, IPLCheck performs a detailed inspection of an LPAR's IPL status, reporting discovered weaknesses and/or structural risk in IPL components or pathing to the Health Checker.
Stand Alone Environment (SAE) has become the industry standard for the repair and recovery of large IBM systems - z/OS, OS/390 and MVS. Its Stand Alone mode of operation is absolutely critical during a disaster. It provides its own operating system environment and operates independent of release level.
SAE components include:
Fast DASD Erase, which allows users to erase mission-critical and/or personal or health data at the end of a disaster recovery (DR) test .
Action Services, which provides complete access to all DASD devices and datasets to allow users to make system repairs. Its tool set includes edit, zap, browse, rename, save, delete, undelete and catalog list/alter.
Stand Alone Restore, which is the fastest way to restore a single dataset originally created using IEBCOPY, IEBGENER, DFSMSdss or FDR.
Image Services, which aids users in the repair of System Images by automatically isolating the components that comprise a specific Image.
Hardware Confirmation, which allows users to verify hardware installations without IPLing the system. It collects sense data at the master console and lets you know if your new hardware has been configured correctly.
